Parents and researcher create a device to help new mothers to monitor breastfeeding flow

Shared by Gemma Tria on 2024-02-21 12:38

About the solution

The genesis of Coro finds its roots in a pivotal moment in the life of Rosanne Longmore, an Irish new mother grappling with the challenge of ensuring optimal nourishment for her newborn, who weighed less than 2.3kg at full term.

Faced with conventional monitoring limitations, especially emotional due to her baby's significant underweight status at birth, Rosanne endured the agonizing wait for traditional weigh-in feedback. Driven by a fervent desire for immediate and precise information, and propelled by the absence of viable solutions on the market, Rosanne, alongside her partner James, embarked on a journey of innovation. Using James' knowledge in monitoring flow from another field, the pair imagined a new technology that could change how breastfeeding is supported.

After talking a lot and seeing their friends go through the same issues, they came up with Coro. It's a special breast shield that measures milk flow, giving accurate, real-time information. You can use it whenever you want, and it helps you see how much your baby is eating. The device is connected to its own app, where you can see all its features and information. Once linked, Coro starts measuring milk right away. Using the app, you can easily switch between breasts by tapping Left or Right, and Coro keeps track of the volume for each side separately. Plus, the app has a timeline screen where you can check your feeding history, like how long and how much your baby has been feeding over the past days or weeks.

As the world's first breastfeeding monitor, Coroflo's innovative device aims to address the limitations of current methods, such as pre- and post-feed weighing, which are often deemed inaccurate. The Coro device, empowers new mothers by providing real-time data on their phone, allowing them to better understand their baby's milk intake. Featuring the patented sensor, Coro, the device is non-invasive, compact, and completely self-contained, eliminating the need for wires or chargers.

Coro provides peace of mind, making sure babies get enough food and alerting parents if there are any problems. It fits smoothly into your breastfeeding routine, without needing wires or constant charging, and gives you helpful information without any hassle.
